Northern Super League Announces Seventh Franchise
Winnipeg named as first NSL expansion team, debuting in 2027
Davies acted for the Northern Super League (NSL) in negotiating with investors to establish its seventh franchise in Winnipeg, marking the league’s first expansion and its first club in Manitoba.
The franchise, founded by Winnipeg native and former Canadian national team midfielder Desiree Scott and Rob Gale, represents the next step in the league's strategic growth and expands the NSL’s national footprint. Davies is a key strategic adviser to the NSL in its evolution, helping the league to solidify its momentum on the international sports stage.
The announcement follows the successful inaugural season of Canada’s first professional women’s soccer league and a recent strategic investment by APEX, an international sports investment firm. Together, these developments reflect the league’s continued advancement and the public’s increasing appetite for professional women’s sports. Davies has a history of supporting women in sports, including the launch of the NSL and AFC Toronto, and in advising start-ups and emerging companies as they scale up.
The Davies team advising on the mandate was led by Brooke Jamison and included Charles Larose Jodoin (Corporate); Stephanie Pasternyk (Employment); and Sammy Cheaib (Tax).
