Davies Remembers Peter Mendell

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Peter Mendell on June 2, 2026. Peter was a partner in our Montréal office and a distinguished member of the firm who had a unique gift for building relationships.

Peter dedicated nearly 60 years to advising clients on significant transactions across Canada and around the world. Known for his energy, insight and sound judgment, Peter earned the trust of public and private companies operating across industries and continents. His work spanned more than 90 countries, and his ability to connect with people across cultures set him apart. He played a pivotal role in enhancing the firm’s profile and reputation on the international stage.

Peter was an exceptional lawyer, a trusted colleague and a cherished member of our firm. From 1991 to 2000, Peter served as Managing Partner of our Montréal office. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned the respect and admiration of clients, colleagues and generations of Davies lawyers through his dedication and unwavering commitment.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Peter will be remembered for his warmth and kindness. He gave generously of his time to his community. He served on the boards of Théâtre de Lac-Brome and PROCURE, and was active with organizations such as ConCuerda. His passion for the arts led to the creation of the Peter Mendell Award with the Jeunesse Musicales Canada Foundation, supporting excellence among young string players.

Peter was a mentor to many, a dedicated partner, a valued collaborator and a constant source of encouragement to colleagues across the firm. He was always willing to lend his time, wisdom and support to any initiative. His loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
