Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers

March 3, 2026

Congratulations to our partner Matthew Milne-Smith on his induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL).

Founded in 1950, the ACTL is widely recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Fellowship is extended by invitation only, following a rigorous investigation process, to experienced trial lawyers who have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality.

The ACTL strives to preserve and enhance trial practice, civility, professionalism, and the administration of justice through support of an independent judiciary, the rule of law, trial by jury, and access to justice.

Widely regarded as a leading advocate, Matthew maintains a broad litigation practice spanning class actions, commercial disputes, securities litigation and competition matters. Clients describe him as an outstanding litigation lawyer and lead counsel, praising his excellent judgment and his ability to deliver practical, actionable advice grounded in a deep understanding of their business objectives. His excellence has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation, which has named him among Canada’s Top 50 Trial Lawyers and included him as a Litigation Star in its 2025 guide. He has also been recognized in Lexpert’s Special Edition: Litigation.

Matthew’s induction took place recently in La Quinta, California. He joins The Honourable Morris J. Fish, Guy Du Pont, Sandra Forbes, Jean-Philippe Groleau, Nick Rodrigo and Kent Thomson as fellow Davies lawyers who are members of the ACTL.
