May 27, 2021

Davies affiliated scholar and Osgoode Hall Law School professor Poonam Puri has been recognized with the Law Society Medal – one of the highest honours given by the Law Society of Ontario – for her exemplary contributions to the profession.

One of Canada’s most influential legal scholars, Poonam is a leading voice in the areas of corporate law, corporate governance and securities regulation. Her academic publications are widely discussed and her research has led to significant policy and regulatory reform.

Poonam’s academic work is complemented by extensive practical business experience as a corporate director on the boards of numerous public and private sector organizations, including the Canada Infrastructure Bank, Canadian Apartment Properties Real Estate Investment Trust and Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. She is also a former commissioner of the Ontario Securities Commission.

In her role at Davies, Poonam provides incisive counsel to boards, special committees and management on a wide range of corporate governance and corporate and securities law matters. She regularly serves as an expert in corporate and securities class actions involving directors’ duties, public disclosure, and board and management decision-making.

A former associate dean at Osgoode, Poonam is the founder of Osgoode’s Business Law LLM program and the co-founder of its Investor Protection Clinic, the first of its kind in Canada.
