Poonam Puri Awarded Royal Society of Canada’s Yvan Allaire Medal

September 16, 2021

Davies affiliated scholar and Osgoode Hall Law School professor Poonam Puri has been awarded the Yvan Allaire Medal from the Royal Society of Canada – one of Canada’s highest academic honours – for her exemplary contributions to the corporate governance of public and private organizations.

One of the world’s leading scholars in corporate law and governance, Poonam has influenced public policy, regulatory reform and governance best practices in Canada and around the world. Her daring research topics and empirical approaches to scholarship have played a key role in developing useful policy prescriptions for governance reform. She has been entrusted with training the next generation of governance leaders and corporate directors in Canada as an instructor at the Institute of Corporate Directors-Rotman Directors Education Program, and she has assisted numerous international organizations, provincial and federal ministries, Crown corporations, self-regulated enterprises, and public and private corporations with complex governance issues.

In her role at Davies, Poonam provides incisive counsel on a wide range of corporate governance matters to boards, special committees and management. She regularly serves as an expert in significant corporate and securities class actions involving directors’ duties, public disclosure, and board and management decision-making, drawing on her vast knowledge and expertise gained through her many business, regulatory, academic and public policy leadership positions.

The Royal Society of Canada recognizes Canada’s leading intellectuals, scholars, researchers and artists to advance knowledge, encourage integrated interdisciplinary understandings and address issues that are critical to Canadians.

The medals will be presented at an awards ceremony on November 19 in Montréal.
