At last night’s 22nd Annual ITR Americas Tax Awards in New York City, Davies won the Impact Deal of the Year Award for our work on Imperial Tobacco’s CCAA and Chapter 15 proceedings.
Davies acted for FTI Consulting Canada Inc. as the neutral, court-appointed monitor of Imperial Tobacco and its affiliates in the CCAA proceedings, as well as in the Chapter 15 U.S. Bankruptcy Code proceedings in the Southern District of New York. In that capacity, Davies assisted the court-appointed mediator and monitors in effecting the landmark CCAA plans that led to the historic C$32.5-billion settlement of tobacco-related liabilities. The implementation of these CCAA plans marked the conclusion of decades-long litigation and Canada’s largest, most complex restructuring to date.
The Davies tax team was led by Elie Roth, assisted by Ray Rubin, Julie Colden, Marie-Emmanuelle Vaillancourt and Darren Joblonkay. Davies restructuring and insolvency partners Natalie Renner and Rob Nicholls are involved in the matter, along with litigation partners Chanakya Sethi, Faiz Lalani and Rui Gao.
Since 2005, the ITR Americas Tax Awards have recognized the achievements of leading tax professionals and their firms across the region.
