Davies’ Annual Corporate/Securities Law Moot
On March 8 and 9, students from 13 law schools across Canada competed in the 33rd annual Davies Corporate/Securities Law Moot.
This year’s problem explored a variety of issues, including directors’ duties, the exercise of contractual discretion in good faith, damage awards for breach of an Arrangement Agreement and knowing assistance of a breach of fiduciary duties.
The top two teams competed in a final round before a five-member panel comprising The Honourable Justice Barbara Conway of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List); The Honourable Justice Suzanne Côté of the Supreme Court of Canada; The Honourable Justice Siobhan Monaghan of the Federal Court of Appeal; The Honourable Justice Katherine van Rensburg of the Ontario Court of Appeal; and Mr. Grant Vingoe, CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission.
