Kent Thomson Elected Fellow of the International Society of Barristers

Davies partner Kent Thomson has been elected as a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers, an exclusive society of outstanding trial lawyers chosen by their peers on the basis of excellence and integrity in advocacy.

With a regular membership of fewer than 750 lawyers, the Society seeks to honour the role of trial lawyers in our system of judges. Membership is extended to advocates of exceptional talent whose qualities – including integrity, honour and collegiality – embody the spirit of the true professional.

Recognized repeatedly as one of Canada’s leading trial and appellate counsel, Kent has represented successfully clients at all levels of court throughout Canada, including in cases that have resulted in numerous precedent-setting decisions. A number of those decisions have been rendered by the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also conducted numerous contested hearings before administrative tribunals and in complex domestic and international arbitrations in Canada, the United States, Europe and Africa.

Kent is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, organizations comprised of leading trial lawyers who have achieved the highest level of advocacy. Only five Canadian lawyers have been elected as Fellows of all three organizations.

Kent is consistently recognized in numerous ranking publications and has been named by Expert Guides’ Best of the Best as one of the top 30 litigation counsel in the world and by Benchmark as one of the top 50 trial lawyers in Canada.

Kent will be formally inducted into the Society at its annual spring meeting in Kiawah, South Carolina, in March 2020.
