Davies Wins Impact Case of the Year at Benchmark Canada Awards 2019

The Benchmark Canada Awards have once again recognized Davies as having one of the country’s top litigation practices, honouring the firm with an Impact Case of the Year award at the annual ceremony held on March 7 in Toronto.

Davies received the award for its representation of Vale Canada Limited in its defence against claims of almost $500 million pertaining to the Voisey’s Bay Nickel Project. The case, which dealt with a highly complex matter related to royalty calculations, was settled in September 2018 after the first week of a scheduled four-month trial. It was the first “hybrid” trial and first electronic trial ever conducted in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The litigation team was led by Kent Thomson and Derek Ricci and included Jim Doris, Andrew Carlson, Tony Alexander, Maureen Littlejohn and Carlos Sayao.

Hosted annually by Benchmark Litigation since 2013, the Benchmark Canada Awards celebrate the country’s leading litigators and law firms, and highlight the exceptional work they achieved for their clients over the previous year.
