Davies partners Bill Brock and Cara Cameron, who represented Cinar Corporation against executives who defrauded the company, were featured on CBC’s The Fifth Estate and Ici Radio-Canada’s Enquête to discuss their role in this high-profile case.
Bill and Cara were hired by Cinar’s board of directors to locate and recover over US$120 million of the company’s money after an internal audit revealed former co-CEO Ronald Weinberg had transferred such funds to the Bahamas. “Over time, we found out that yes, we were being fed a stream of lies,” said Bill.
Cara commented that the team conducted litigation all over the world, speaking to lawyers from three or four countries a day to recover the funds. “We were looking for justice for our clients and we were trying to deploy all legal means that we could in order to achieve those ends.” she said.
Davies was successful in recovering a substantial portion of such funds.
