Financial Times Shortlists Davies for Innovative Lawyers North America Awards 2021

Davies has been shortlisted for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards 2021 for Innovation in Social Justice. Davies is nominated for acting for the Honourable Morris J. Fish, former Supreme Court of Canada Justice and Jurist in Residence at Davies, in his independent review of Canada’s military justice system.

The Davies team assisting Justice Fish throughout the review included partner Jean-Philippe Groleau, who acted as senior counsel, and associate Guillaume Charlebois, who acted as associate counsel.

Justice Fish was appointed by Canada’s Minister of National Defence in November 2020 to conduct the review. The 400-page report, delivered to the Minister in June 2021, contains 107 wide-ranging recommendations, a majority of which address the military justice system, including the independence of its actors, the handling of sexual misconduct allegations, military policing and police oversight.

In the words of the Department of Defence, the report “will assist in ushering the military justice system into a new era.”

The FT Innovative Lawyers North America Awards recognize innovation in the legal industry, which must match the accelerating pace of business and help find sustainable ways for clients to operate and grow. The FT and its research partner RSGi Limited reviewed hundreds of submissions from top law firms, legal service providers and in-house legal teams to compile the awards shortlist.

This year’s awards ceremony will be held virtually on December 9, 2021. See the FT Innovative Lawyers website for more information.
