Alstom Acquires Bombardier Transportation to Become Leader in Global Mobility Market

French train manufacturer Alstom S.A. completed its acquisition last week of Bombardier Transportation, strengthening its position in the global market amid greater demand for greener transportation worldwide.

Davies acted as Canadian counsel to Alstom in the €4.4-billion strategic acquisition, which closed on January 29, 2021. The deal represents a transformational step for Alstom, which is expected to become a leader in the global mobility market with revenues of approximately US$18 billion.

With the completion of the transaction, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec becomes Alstom’s main shareholder, with 17.5% of Alstom’s share capital.

Davies played an integral role in obtaining Canadian regulatory approvals and advising Alstom on all Canadian legal issues.
