Pricing Analyst

We are currently seeking a Pricing Analyst to join the Knowledge Management & Pricing team in our Toronto office on a permanent, full-time basis. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the firm’s Pricing team and support all firm pricing and matter management initiatives, including gathering and analyzing historical pricing data, matter planning, monitoring, budgeting and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the firm’s pricing and matter management program, including:
    • management of matter plans and matter plan templates;
    • identifying matters suitable for tracking by phase/task;
    • assigning phase/task codes to select new files using the appropriate matter plan template or a customized matter plan reflecting specific client/matter requirements;
    • setting up budgets;
    • setting up and monitoring scheduled reporting; coordinating ad hoc reporting or time entry coding requests;
    • maintenance and troubleshooting of issues;
    • conducting debriefs to analyze outcomes and capture lessons learned;
    • capturing gathered pricing information in designated database; and
    • communicating with lawyers on any of the above.
  • Manipulate pricing data by making effective use of the firm’s accounting system and budgeting tools in support of the development of pricing proposals and budgets, cost/pricing strategies, solutions and budget models
  • Prepare reporting on firm clients and matters to respond to business and client needs
  • Provide general financial and pricing analytics support to the Pricing Team
  • Manage a database of pricing engagements and fee proposals, ensuring accurate classification and following up to determine outcomes

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Information Science or similar field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • This is an entry-level position; however, relevant work experience of 1-3 years, preferably in a pricing, accounting, billing, project management or a quantitative focused role within a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services organization will be considered a strong asset
  • Basic programming knowledge and SQL experience
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
  • Superior project and time management skills; ability to efficiently manage a variety of concurrent projects and handle conflicting priorities while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to manipulate data effectively and present findings to stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; solid interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Keen interest in and facility with using technology
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills; knowledge of other financial analytical tools is a strong asset
  • Ability to learn, leverage and use additional programs including budgeting and financial management software
