Knowledge Management Lawyer

Davies is seeking a Knowledge Management Lawyer to join our Knowledge Management (KM) and Pricing team in Toronto. Reporting to the Director, Knowledge Management and Pricing, the successful candidate will be actively involved in the implementation of the firm’s strategic objectives in the area of KM, working with our legal professionals and other stakeholders to leverage and manage the firm’s intellectual capital and advance our KM and innovation initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implementation of Knowledge Management initiatives related to the capture, organization and access to the firm's institutional knowledge
  • Oversee the ongoing development and updating of the firm’s precedents and research collections, including participation in drafting and annotating model documents
  • Work closely with lawyers to identify and gather new valuable knowledge resources, and to maintain current our existing collections of precedents and research materials
  • Work with practice groups to explore their specific KM needs; formulate recommendations for how processes and technologies can best meet the needs of the practice groups; work with the practice groups to implement new projects
  • Promote awareness and active usage of the firm's knowledge resources
  • Assist lawyers and students in locating precedent and research resources as requested
  • Participate in efforts to maintain and optimize the use of existing KM technology (including enterprise search); participate in the evaluation, implementation and adoption of new legal technology relating to improving efficiencies
  • Contribute to the firm’s innovation and collaboration projects
  • Conduct training on existing KM tools and resources
  • High level of interaction and coordination across all groups firm-wide, including management, lawyers, IT, finance, marketing and business development
  • Keeping current with developments in the Knowledge Management community and maintaining or developing applicable subject matter expertise

Skills & Experience Required

  • LL.B. or equivalent, with excellent academic credentials
  • 2-5 years of client facing legal experience as a lawyer in a top-tier transactional firm
  • Excellent drafting, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts clearly and concisely
  • Outstanding interpersonal and client service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Keen interest and facility with using legal technology
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and possessing outstanding initiative
  • Innovative and forward looking thinker
  • Strong teamwork, strategic, and analytical thinking skills
