It is with great sadness that we announce that our esteemed and deeply admired former senior partner Howard Beck passed away on July 17, 2020.

Howard joined the firm in the early 1960s after completing his legal studies at the University of British Columbia and Columbia University in New York. Shortly after, the firm proudly changed its name to Davies, Ward & Beck. Charismatic and sharp with a keen sense of humour, Howard quickly attracted a large clientele who valued his strategic advice and business judgment in addition to his exceptional legal talents. After the untimely passing of Bob Davies, Howard, together with the late David Ward, helped build the firm into a powerhouse by attracting and empowering bright young lawyers, whom he taught and mentored with great wisdom and compassion.

In 1989, Howard left the practice of law for a second, equally successful, career in business. He served on the board of a number of prominent Canadian corporations, including Barrick Gold Corporation, where he was a director for 20 years.

We extend our sincerest condolences to Howard’s family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
