Announcement

Honouring Adam Fanaki

We are pleased to announce that, in honour of our dear friend and former colleague Adam Fanaki, Davies has established the Adam Fanaki Memorial Award in Competition Law at the University of Western Ontario, Adam’s alma mater. The prize will be awarded annually to the student with the highest standing in the Faculty of Law’s Competition Law Course. Adam passed away on February 15 of this year after a celebrated career in the field of competition law.

We are also proud to be the lead sponsor of the Adam Fanaki Brain Fund, founded by Adam’s family to support brain cancer patients and their caregivers. To date, the fund has collected over $92,000 in pledges from Canadian businesses and individuals. Visit resilientpeople.ca to learn more about the fund and ways to contribute.

A brilliant lawyer, advocate and mentor, Adam was one of Canada’s pre-eminent competition lawyers and a pillar of the international antitrust community. Before joining Davies, he served as Senior Deputy Commissioner of Competition and head of the Mergers Branch at the Competition Bureau, and as Special Counsel to the Commissioner, where he played a key role in the design and implementation of major reforms to the Competition Act. During his 11 years at Davies, Adam acted as lead counsel in a number of the most significant competition cases in Canada, representing parties in complex proceedings at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court and the Competition Tribunal.

While Adam was highly sought after for his skilled guidance and advocacy, those who knew him remember him as a remarkable man with a generous spirit, a charismatic presence and a passion for life and family. We are grateful that through these recognitions, Adam’s spirit will live on and his legacy will continue to inspire us all.
