Davies is proud to have sponsored the 2019 Omatsu FACL Ontario Scholarship, established in honour of Justice Maryka Omatsu, celebrated as Canada’s first woman judge of East Asian heritage.

Since 2013, the Omatsu FACL Ontario Scholarship has been awarded annually to one or more law students who have excelled in their academic careers and have demonstrated a commitment to leadership, community involvement and the promotion of social justice. This year, the Omatsu scholarship sponsored by Davies was awarded to Yadesha Satheaswaran, a third-year student at Osgoode Hall Law School. Davies partner Sarah Powell presented the scholarship to Yadesha at the 12th annual FACL conference and gala on February 23 in Toronto.

Founded in 2007, FACL (Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers) is a diverse coalition of Asian Canadian legal professionals dedicated to promoting equity, justice, and opportunity for Asian Canadians in the profession and the broader community. Davies commends and supports FACL for the vital role it plays in advancing inclusion, diversity and access to justice in the Canadian legal system.
