Davies is widely recognized as one of Canada's leading law firms and our lawyers are independently acclaimed to be leaders in mergers and acquisitions, Canadian and international tax, mining and resource law, bank and capital market financings and litigation. Our foreign clients, including Indian clients, value our leadership in these areas and regularly engage us to advise them on public company takeover bids, acquisitions of private companies, minority investments in public companies and joint ventures, including all of the related due diligence, environmental, tax, foreign investment approval, employment, litigation and other legal issues they need to consider when making investments in Canada.

Davies has been actively involved in Asia for more than 35 years, led by a dedicated team of specialists from our Canadian offices and supplemented as required locally. Our approach to expanding our relationships and presence in India is by establishing close relations with lawyers in India who are at the forefront of the Indian legal market, which enables us to provide seamless service to our clients both in Canada and India. We are also developing strong relationships with key Indian accounting firms, corporate finance houses and other service providers.

Davies has been retained by several large Indian multi-national companies to provide advice on potential investments and acquisitions in Canada. Recently we acted as Canadian counsel to Tata Chemicals Limited, part of the Tata Group and India's leading manufacturer of inorganic chemicals, fertilizers and food additives, in its acquisition of the shares of General Chemical Industrial Products Inc., a U.S.-based chemical company, for over $1 billion.

In addition, Davies has represented Canadian clients in connection with their investments and other activities in India. Davies recently acted for a Canadian pension fund with regard to its formation of a joint venture with an Indian partner and an initial acquisition by the joint venture of six major real estate development projects in India. We also represented one of our Canadian clients in connection with its significant investment in a fund established to invest in equity, equity-related and debt securities in real estate centric investments in India.

Members of Davies' India practice group have been regularly called upon to participate in various boards and discussion panels regarding investment and business opportunities in Canada and India. Members of the firm make frequent visits to India to build our relationships with new and existing clients, government officials and others.
