Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario

Shefali chose to practise law because it is a career in which one never stops being challenged and therefore never stops learning.

She chose Davies for the opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds on some of the largest transactions and because of the collegial nature of the firm.

What qualities do you think a good lawyer should have?

A good lawyer should have the ability to listen effectively. If you listen, then you understand the problem and if you understand the problem, you’re halfway to the solution.

What experience, job or internship have you learned the most from or found most rewarding?

I volunteered for a year and a half with Ronald McDonald House, an organization that provides a home away from home for sick children. Having the ability to make such a large impact on someone’s life, though you play a relatively small part in the organization, is something I find phenomenal.

Whom have you learned the most from personally or professionally?

My parents. They taught me the importance of working hard and making the most of the opportunities presented to you.
