2019 Second-Year Summer Class, Toronto
John chose Davies for the opportunity to work on the most significant corporate matters and for the freedom the firm affords students to practise in an area of their choosing.
His undergraduate training in Geography and Urban Studies taught him how to think critically about how societies are organized, a skill that he believes will readily transfer to understanding the law, applying that knowledge to real-life situations and crafting practical solutions.
What qualities do you think a good lawyer should have?
I think that a good lawyer should work hard, have integrity and have empathy for others.
What surprised you most about Davies during the interview process?
I was surprised by the extent to which Davies lawyers sacrifice for each other and put the interests of the firm and their colleagues first. I think that lawyers are often cast as free agents out for themselves and their clients, so meeting Davies lawyers who would be there for their colleagues at the drop of a hat on a Saturday evening was exciting and refreshing.
