• How does Davies give back?

  We encourage students to take part in community service and pro bono initiatives that we support. Here are just a few:

  • Law in Action Within Schools (LAWS), which coordinates summer placements with our firm for inner-city high school students.
  • The Canadian Corporate/Securities Moot, which we sponsor and organize.
  • A wide range of charitable organizations – including RBC Race for the Kids, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Campfire Circle, Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF), Covenant House, Jay’s Care Foundation, Lawyers Feed the Hungry, The Stop Community Food Centre, Terry Fox Run, United Way and Kids Help Phone – all of which, among many others, have benefited from our support and fundraising efforts.

• How will pass/fail grading on my transcripts affect my application?

  Davies is committed to a holistic review of every candidate’s application, which includes both academic and non-academic accomplishments. We continue to look for candidates who are well-rounded, motivated and creative problem-solvers who will enrich and strengthen our team with their diverse experiences, achievements and personal stories. Accordingly, we want to put your mind at ease that your application to Davies will not be negatively affected by elected or mandated pass/fail or credit/no credit grading.

Summer Program

• How long is the summer program?

  The program spans 12 weeks, from mid-May to mid-August.

• When are first-year students hired?

  In February. Specific dates for applications and interviews are set by the Law Society. For details, please check with your school’s career development office.

• When are second-year students hired?

  In November. Specific dates for applications and interviews are set by the Law Society. For details, please check with your school’s career development office.

• Will I be assigned a mentor?

  Yes. As soon you’re hired for the summer, we match you with a mentor who helps you get acquainted with our firm and prepare for your role while you’re still completing your school term. And you’ll continue to have that support and guidance when you’re working with us and when you’re back at school.

Articling

• How long is the articling program?

  The program runs for 10 months.

• Can I begin my time at Davies as an articling student?

  We generally don’t hire additional students outside our summer class.
