David Stolow
 
 
David Stolow is a partner in the firm’s litigation group. He practises corporate/commercial and civil litigation and has represented clients in a wide range of areas including, class action defense, various types of commercial disputes, shareholder litigation, defamation, construction, and employment matters. David has appeared as counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada, all levels of courts in Quebec, as well as in private arbitration.

Most recently, he successfully acted, pro bono, as co-counsel for the appellant in the landmark case of Bruker v. Marcovitz, in which the Supreme Court of Canada awarded damages for the breach of a civil promise to provide a Jewish divorce.

Over the past few years, in the area of class actions, David has been involved in a number of high profile cases, including, the appeal of a novel group defamation class action judgment on the merits (Bou Malhab v. Métromédia CMR Montréal Inc.) pursuant to which moral damages were awarded to a group of taxi drivers in Montréal and the defense of a generic drug manufacturer in the Piro case, one of the largest proposed class actions in Quebec history. David has lectured on class actions in Quebec and in France and is the author of Defending class in Quebec: The right to an "undoubtedly, real, vigorous and unconstrained" contestation? (Corporate Liability, July 2006).

David obtained his B.A. in 1994 from McGill University with Great Distinction and on the Dean’s Honours List. He completed his LL.B. on the Dean’s List at the Université de Montréal in 1999 and at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2001. In 1998-1999, he articled with Justice Nicole Morneau of the Quebec Superior Court. David is a director of the Lord Reading Law Society. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 2001 and became a partner of the firm in 2005.

David is fluently bilingual - he practises in French and English.
