Daniel Miller is a partner in the Corporate/Commercial, Commercial Real Estate, Life Sciences and Technology practices. He was the firm’s co-managing partner for 20 years, from 1977 to 1997. His legal career spans nearly 40 years.

Daniel has experience and expertise in nearly every area of business law. His extensive practice includes real estate law, corporate/commercial law and conveyancing. Today, Daniel focuses on high technology and biotechnology law. He is technically adept and highly informed in computer technology and is involved in all legal aspects of the computer industry, including the preparation of software, hardware and development agreements.

Daniel’s biotechnology practice is in the leading-edge fields of pharmacogenomics and proteomics, which examine the relationship of specific genes and proteins in the human genome and particular diseases and then work to develop medications for their treatment.

Representative Work
  • Acts as legal counsel to various McGill University research scientists.
  • Acted as legal counsel to, and as a director of, Comterm Inc., a manufacturer of intelligent terminals as well as one of the first manufacturers of portable computers.
  • Acts as legal counsel to, and as a director of, Nova Molecular Inc., the holder of various medical patents in the field of Alzheimer’s and other central nervous system diseases.
  • Acted as legal counsel to Jesta Capital Corp. and the Canvar Group in the acquisition of the Dorval Airport Hilton Hotel.
  • Played a principal role in successful litigation by Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. against Canadian Commercial Corporation (a Crown corporation) with respect to a US$250 million contract with the U.S. Government.
  • Represented Euro-Pro Corporation and Omega Sewmac Inc. in the sale of their businesses to Euro-Pro Operating LLC and related financing in a deal valued at $250 million.
  • Represented Jesta Capital Corp. in the sale of 3,100 multi-family rental units to Boardwalk Equities Inc. in a transaction valued at approximately $177.5 million.
  • Represented John Hancock Life Insurance Company in its purchase of US$44.5 million of senior secured notes of Gaspesia Papers, L.P.
