Cara Cameron is a partner in the Litigation practice. She has particular expertise with litigation that involves shareholders’ disputes, white-collar investigations and defence, commercial fraud and recovery claims, as well as with multi-jurisdictional enforcement and liquidation proceedings.
Representative Work
- Acted on behalf of a shareholder of a private company to obtain interim injunctions and the naming of an interim receiver to protect the assets of the company, specifically fine art valued at more than $15 million. These proceedings involved related proceedings in the United States and Switzerland for the recovery of the debt and the protection of the company’s assets.
- Acted for Ernst & Young Inc., a Court-appointed Monitor, in connection with the restructuring of Quebecor World Inc. (now known as World Color Press Inc.) and 53 of its subsidiaries with in excess of US$2.8 billion of liabilities when Quebecor World sought protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act and Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.
- Acted on behalf of Cinar Corporation in significant litigation in Canada and elsewhere involving the recovery of in excess of $100 million in relation to certain unauthorized transactions effected by past directors and officers of the corporation. This litigation also involved multi-jurisdictional safeguard, enforcement and liquidation proceedings, including seizures and ex parte worldwide asset freezing injunctions.
- Acted for Exeltech and NordTech Aerospace (NTA) Inc., creditors of Jetsgo Corporation, in connection with the Jetsgo bankruptcy.
- Represented Metso Inc. before the Superior Court in a patent and intellectual property dispute involving the Gaspesia project.
- Represented the National Wildlife Federation in litigation before the Superior Court of Québec arising out of the financing and production of IMAX format wildlife films.
- Acted for a major manufacturer of veterinary pharmaceutical products based in Northern Ireland in injunctions proceedings instituted against Vétoquinol N.-A. Inc. arising out of the latter's breach of a licensing agreement.
- Represented Global Television Network Inc. in an action instituted against it arising out of an alleged copyright violation in respect of the POPSTARS television show.
- Represented a Brazilian pension fund manager in relation to a major dispute involving certain foreign telecommunications assets, which involved multi-jurisdictional litigation.
- Represented a Canadian company in the aircraft industry in a major dispute with a contractor concerning the refurbishment, maintenance and completion of business jets.
