Robert specializes in transactions and corporate law. He has particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, real estate, corporate governance, estate planning and trusts and charitable institutions. His client base reflects the significance of the transactions he helps to negotiate and finalize.
Representative Work
- Acted as lead counsel in what is believed to be the largest single-site transaction in Canadian real estate history – the development and sale of Terminal 3 at Pearson International Airport in Toronto; represented the owners of Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in their negotiations with the Government of Canada and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
- Represented the Redbourne Realty Fund when it was established to invest approximately $375 million in properties managed by the Redbourne Group, a major real estate investment and management organization. The Fund targets the acquisition of office and industrial real estate in urban centres in Canada.
- Represented Redbourne Investments Inc. and other investors in their acquisition of Place Montreal Trust in Montréal.
- Represented Holiday Group Inc. when Borealis Capital Corp. acquired a majority interest in Montréal-based Holiday Group Inc. and Florida-based Travelpro International, Inc., two leading North American suppliers of luggage and bags, from Wafra Partners LLC and management shareholders.
- Advised Boomerang Tracking Inc. when it was acquired by Lojack Corp. in a transaction valued at approximately $64 million.
- Represented Reitmans (Canada) Limited in its acquisition of Shirmax Fashions Ltd. in a transaction valued at approximately $86 million.
- Acted as counsel to the Audit Committee and the independent directors of Cinar Corporation with regard to corporate governance issues.
