Pierre-André Themens
 
 
Pierre-André Themens is a managing partner of the firm and a member of the firm’s Management Committee. While his practice focuses on all aspects of complex real estate transactions, from development to financing to acquisitions/dispositions to securitization, in Canada and internationally, he has a strong corporate/commercial practice as well.

Pierre-André has been involved in significant real estate transactions in Canada and elsewhere. Examples of most recent major transactions include acting as lead counsel for the acquisition on behalf of a partnership having Starwood Capital Group Global LLC as its general partner of a portfolio of hotel properties in Canada and the United States, the acquisition of a $700 million office building portfolio from Trizec, the acquisition of the properties at 1515 Broadway (New York) and 340 Madison Avenue (New York). Current representation includes assisting one of Eastern Canada's largest windfarm developers in connection with three projects presently in their construction phase. His client base includes Canadians developing in Canada, foreign investors in Canada (primarily Americans as well as French and Italian companies) and Canadian-based entities developing abroad. He recently acted in connection with significant transactions in Israel. Over the years, he has been and continues to be involved in significant transactions for Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and other major institutional investors and pension plans.

Pierre-André is cited in LEXPERT/American Lawyer Media's Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, as a leading lawyer in corporate and commercial law and property development law. Furthermore, according to Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory, he is among the most frequently recommended lawyers in corporate and commercial law, property financing and development law, and is consistently recommended in banking, corporate finance and securities and mergers and acquisitions law. Pierre-André has been ranked by IFLR’s Expert Guide as an expert lawyer in the real estate field. Pierre-André is also listed in the Who’s Who in Canadian Business. He has been ranked in real estate by Chambers Global’s The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business for the past four years, where it was noted that "he is widely recommended, particularly for USA/Canada cross-border work". Pierre-André has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating.

Among many community commitments, Pierre-André acts as Trustee and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Centre for Architecture, a Trustee of the Daniel Langlois Foundation for the Arts, Sciences and Technology, The Phyllis Lambert Trust and The Phyllis Bronfman Foundation. He is a director of Gluskin Sheff + Associates Inc. and also a director of a number of corporations and organizations.

Pierre-André was educated at Collège Bois-de-Boulogne and received an LL.L. (with "très grande distinction") from the Université de Montréal in 1977. He became a partner in 1984. Pierre-André is trilingual, speaking French, English and Italian fluently.
