Arthur Shiff
 
 
Arthur Shiff is a partner whose practice is concentrated in the corporate, commercial and securities law areas. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, private placements, bank financings, reorganizations and other commercial transactions in Canada and elsewhere. Arthur has been lead counsel to public and private clients of the firm in a broad range of industries, including electric utility, biotechnology, and real estate.

Arthur acted as lead Canadian counsel for Olympia & York Developments Limited in its public and private domestic and international financings from 1984 to 1992. Since 1993, Arthur has acted as lead counsel for Fortis Inc., a diversified international electric utility holding company with electric utility distribution operations located in Alberta, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Belize, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos Islands and investments in real estate and hotel operations. He has acted on behalf of Fortis and its subsidiaries with respect to public take-over bids, acquisitions, public offerings and private placements.

From 1993 to 2006, Arthur acted as lead counsel for Hemosol Inc., a public Canadian biopharmaceutical company. He has acted on its behalf with respect to strategic alliances, public financings, private placements, acquisitions and research and development and licensing arrangements. Since 1994, Arthur has acted as lead counsel for Danier Leather Inc., a Canadian public company involved in the design, manufacture and retailing of leather clothing and accessories.

Arthur is the general editor of Canadian Corporation Precedents/Canadian Securities Law Precedents, a ten volume series published by Carswell. Arthur attended the University of Toronto as an undergraduate and received an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1975. Arthur became a partner in 1979.
