Ian Crosbie is a partner in our tax group with extensive experience in a wide range of domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, financings and financial products. In addition to his broad transactional experience, Ian regularly advises Canadian-based multinationals on intra-group international tax matters. Ian has also worked extensively on private equity funds, formation and investment transactions, advising fund sponsors.
Recently, Ian has acted in connection with the Reuters Group PLC and Thomson Corporation virtual merger, Symmetry Holdings Inc. acquisition of Novamerican Steel Inc., Onex Corporation's acquisition of Carestream Health, Inc's. from Eastman Kodak Company and the formation of EdgeStone Capital Equity Fund III, among other matters.
Ian is a frequent speaker and writer on a variety of income tax topics including the taxation of corporate reorganizations and the taxation of derivatives and corporate finance transactions. He has presented at a variety of Canadian and international tax conferences hosted by (among others) the Canadian Tax Foundation, the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the International Fiscal Association. He is a member of the editorial board of the
Canadian Tax Journal, and is a contributing editor of
Corporate Finance, a periodical devoted to tax issues relating to corporate finance. He is a past member of the The Joint Committee on Taxation of the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Ian is recognized in Euromoney Legal Media Group's

Ian received a B.A. in Economics and History from the University of Toronto in 1983 and an LL.B. from the University of Toronto Law School in 1986. He became a partner in 1992.
