Luis Sarabia
 
 
Luis Sarabia is a partner of the litigation group at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP.  He has a broad range of experience in general corporate/commercial litigation and practices extensively in the area of securities and mining litigation.  He has appeared as lead counsel for public and private corporations in matters before courts in Ontario, British Columbia and the Yukon.  He has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the Yukon Court of Appeal and various administrative tribunals including appearances before the Ontario Securities Commission.  He has acted as lead counsel in private arbitrations and mediations and has given expert evidence in the United States. Luis speaks Spanish fluently and regularly acts in matters involving Spanish-speaking parties.

Luis has recently acted for public corporations in the leading cases involving takeover bids and change of control litigation including Sears Canada, Ventas, and Bolivar.  He has been retained to act for numerous public corporations on options backdating cases as well as class action litigation.

Luis has been a guest lecturer at various law schools including McGill University, University of Western Ontario and has been an instructor at Osgoode Hall's Intensive Trial Advocacy workshop.  He has also delivered conference papers and published on various topics in litigation and securities law.

He obtained a B.A. from the University of Toronto in 1989, an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Toronto in 1991 and an LL.B. from the University of Windsor in 1993. Luis joined the firm as a partner in 2002.
