Claire M.C. Kennedy
 
 
Claire Kennedy is a partner in our tax group, representing clients in domestic and cross-border acquisitions, financings and reorganizations.  She has also provided tax advice on the establishment of a number of private equity funds.  Claire also acts on behalf of clients on tax and transfer pricing disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency.  Claire is a member of the firm's Student Committee.

Claire acted for Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. in its 2007 acquisition of Cumberland Resources Ltd. by share-exchange take-over bid.  She also acted for Vista Equity Partners on Canadian matters related to its acquisition of Indus International.  Claire was part of the Davies team acting for Catalyst Fund in connection with the restructuring of Cable Satisfaction Inc. under the CCAA and the sale of principal subsidiary, Cabovisão Televisão Por Cabõ, S.A., to Cogeco Inc.

Claire has been a speaker at conferences addressing cross-border tax planning opportunities and has taught the upper year Corporate Tax course at Queen's University Faculty of Law.  She is past co-Chair of Continuing Legal Education for the Tax Section of the Ontario Bar Association.  Claire is also Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board at the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, University of Toronto and Vice-President of the Engineering Alumni Association executive at U of T.  She is a member of the Advancement Subcommittee of the Dean's Council at Queen's Law.

Claire received a B.A.Sc. from the University of Toronto in 1989 and has been a Professional Engineer in Ontario since 1991. She received an LL.B. from Queen's University in 1994 and was a law clerk in 1996 to the Honourable Mr. Justice Charles D. Gonthier of the Supreme Court of Canada. Claire became a partner in 1999.
