Philippe Johnson
 
 
Philippe Johnson is a partner specializing in the corporate law practice, with emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate finance.

Philippe recently acted in a number of significant transactions including the sale of Telesat Canada by BCE Inc., the representation of Eric Molson and Pentland Securities in Molson's proposed US$6 billion merger with Coors and the merger of CDP Capital Mortgages with MCAP Inc. (with pro forma combined assets being serviced exceeding $23 billion). He also acts on behalf of Home Depot of Canada in connection with all of its site acquisitions and store developments in the Province of Quebec.

Philippe represented Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. in its $1.06 billion acquisition of the Circle K Corporation and represented John Hancock Life Insurance Company, the senior secured lender in the $353 million financing arrangements for the reconstruction of the Gaspesia pulp and paper mill. He was also actively involved as counsel to Australian-based Amcor Limited in its US$1.56 billion acquisition of the international PET bottle and closure business of Schmalbach-Lubeca of Germany.

Philippe is currently a member of the Board of the Société d’Investissement Jeunesse and of the Montréal chapter of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association.

Philippe completed his B.Comm. in Finance at McGill University in 1992 and worked in commercial banking with HSBC Bank Canada before attending the Université de Montréal to complete his LL.B. in 1998. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1999 and worked for one year as a law clerk to the Honourable Justice Charles D. Gonthier at the Supreme Court of Canada (1999-2000). Philippe became a partner in 2003.

He is fluent in French and English.
