Paul Harris is a partner specializing in corporate finance and securities law and private investment funds. As a member of the firm’s corporate finance and securities law group, Paul’s corporate finance practice is largely transaction-oriented, representing entrepreneurs, private and public companies, investment banks and merchant banks in a variety of merger and acquisition transactions, capital markets equity and debt offerings and management and leveraged buyouts and buy-ins.

Paul’s private equity and investment fund practice specializes in all facets of “alternative asset management”, representing well-known sponsors of and global investors in a wide range of private investment funds in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Paul is a senior member of the firm’s private equity fund practice group, advising Canadian and international private and public sector institutional clients, merchant banks and investment advisors, including Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDP Capital), Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Frank Russell Company, The Sentient Group, University of Toronto Asset Management Corporation and Canadian Corporate Funding Limited (CCFL).

Paul advises clients on organizing and structuring multi-jurisdictional investment partnerships and other pooled investment vehicles including buy-outs, venture capital and other kinds of private equity funds as well as hedge funds and other offshore funds.

Paul was included in The International Who’s Who of Private Fund Lawyers and was recognized as the leading practitioner in Canada for private funds. Paul was also included in the IFLR Legal Media Group’s Expert Guide to the World's Leading Private Equity Lawyers. He is regularly cited as a recommended lawyer in the areas of private equity and venture capital by the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory and the PLC’s Which Lawyer? Yearbook.  Paul has also been recommended as a leading lawyer in the PLC's Which Lawyer? Private Equity Handbook.  Paul has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest ranking.

Paul is a member of the Board of Trustees of Canadian Apartment Properties REIT and Chairman of its Governance and Compensation Committees, a director of the Montréal Alouettes Football Club and one of its representatives to the Board of Governors of the Canadian Football League. Paul has also served as a director of the Sir Mortimer B. Davis Jewish General Hospital Foundation. He is a member of the International Bar Association as well as the Canadian Bar Association.

Paul attended McGill University where he received his B.Comm. in 1972 and his B.C.L. and LL.B. in 1976 and 1977, respectively. He became a partner in 1984.
