Jean-Baptiste Guillot

Jean-Baptiste joined Reinhart Marville Torre, our correspondent office in Paris, as a partner in 1996 and became a member of the Executive Committee in 1997. He then organized the alliance between Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg’s Paris office and its North American offices.

Jean-Baptiste’s practice focuses on Canadian investments in France and French investments in Canada, including matters involving mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, acquisitions of ownership interests, international strategic alliances and other business combinations. Recently, at the request of the French Government, he drafted a report entitled “Les outils juridiques mis à la disposition des clubs de football professionnel français afin d’optimiser leur compétitivité” [Legal tools available to professional French soccer teams in order to optimize their competitiveness] which was unanimously praised by experts and by the press for its significant contribution to an understanding of the legal and fiscal problems faced by European sports teams. He also has expertise in matters involving securities, privatizations, employment law and business law.

Jean-Baptiste is the Vice-President and a member of the Executive Committee of the Chamber of Commerce France-Canada, a founding member of the Club Economique France-Québec, a member of the association “Les Canadiens en Europe”, Co-Chair of the Investment Forum of the Canadian Embassy in France, and a member of the McGill Society of France and of the Cercle de l’Union Interalliée. He also sits on the board of directors of several Canadian and French companies.

Jean-Baptiste, who is fluent in French and English, holds a Bachelor of Civil Law (1986), a Master of Laws (1987) and a diploma from the Comparative Law Institute (1988) of the University of Panthéon-Assas – Paris 2. He obtained a Doctorate in Business Law from the University of René Descartes – Paris 5 (1989) and a Master of International Law from McGill University (1990). From 1989 to 1996, Jean-Baptiste practiced law in two internationally recognized firms, one in Canada and the other in the US, spending three of those years in Canada.
