Duncan Osborne is a partner in the taxation group.  His practice is focused on domestic and international tax planning, real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance.  Duncan has also worked extensively in the private investment fund area, advising sponsors, financial institutions and institutional investors with respect to the taxation of domestic and international private equity and real estate funds.  In the real estate area, Duncan has advised investment banks and institutional investors on various domestic and international acquisition, financing, joint venture and public market activities.

Duncan has written and spoken on a variety of income tax topics for the Canadian Tax Foundation and other private organizations, including tax issues relevant to commercial real estate transactions, the purchase and sale of a business, the computation of safe income, labour-sponsored venture capital corporations and the taxation of royalties.

Duncan is recognized by Chambers Global's The World's Leading Lawyers for Business 2008 as an up and coming lawyer in Tax Law.

Duncan is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the International Fiscal Association and the Canadian Bar Association. He received a B.Sc. (Honours) from Trent University in 1994 and an LL.B. (with Distinction) from the University of Western Ontario in 1998 with a concentration in Taxation.  He has completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants In-Depth Tax Course.

Duncan is also a member of the firm's Student Committee, which is responsible for the recruitment, development and evaluation of summer and articling students at the firm.
