K. A. Siobhan Monaghan
 
 
Siobhan Monaghan is a partner practising in our tax group.  Siobhan has extensive transactional tax experience, including domestic and cross-border reorganizations, financings, mergers and acquisitions, spin-off transactions and securities transactions.  Siobhan also regularly advises on flow-through limited partnership offerings for the resource industry.

Recently, Siobhan has acted on income fund offerings, including the initial public offering of $75 million of units of Altus Group Income Fund, $85.7 million of units of Richards Packaging Income Fund, $165 million of units by Gienow Windows & Doors Income Fund and the $1.2 billion plan of arrangement to create CML Healthcare Income Fund.  She has also acted on a number of cross-border debt offerings, including an offering of $900 million of 5% senior notes and an offering of US$300 million of 4.85% senior notes of Molson Coors Capital Finance ULC.  She was also involved in the financing for the $960 million purchase by Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. of Bombardier's Recreation Products Division.  Siobhan was one of the lead tax advisors to BCE on its sale of its controlling interest in BCE Emergis and to the purchaser of Verizon Information Systems Canada.

Siobhan is a frequent speaker and writer at conferences and in leading tax publications.  She was the co-recipient of the Canadian Tax Foundation's Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award (1996) for  "Today's Butterfly", a paper delivered at the Foundation's annual conference.  Siobhan is also a contributor to International Stock Plans: The Practitioner’s Guide to Exporting Employee Equity (Aspen), and is a contributing editor to Corporate Structures and Groups, published by Federated Press.  She is recognized as a repeatedly recommended corporate tax practitioner in the Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory and ranked in tax law in Chambers Global's The World's Leading Lawyers for Business (2001-2006). 

Siobhan received a B.Comm. from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1981, an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1984, where she was the Gold Medallist, and an LL.M. in Tax from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1994.  In 1985, she was called to the Alberta Bar where she practised until 1988.  In 1988, she was called to the Ontario Bar and joined the firm.  She became a partner in 1990.
