Steven Martin
 
 

Steven Martin is a partner practising in the areas of commercial real estate and corporate law with an emphasis on real estate financing, infrastructure development, real estate purchase and sale transactions and structured real estate financings.

In the past few years, Steven has played an important role in a number of matters, including the restructuring of Cineplex Odeon Corporation under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, the formation of InnVest REIT and the establishment for the REIT of a $375 million term loan facility from a Canadian financial institution and a $25 million operating facility from a Canadian chartered bank.  Most recently, Steven played a lead role in a series of transactions with Wal-Mart and First Pro in the sale of over 50 shopping centres located across Canada to Calloway REIT.  He also played a key role in advising a consortium in the Canadian public-private infrastructure, including on its successful bid for the construction of the southeast leg of the Anthony Henday Ring Road in Edmonton, Alberta.  Steven has played a significant role with other infrastructure projects including the international rail tunnel between Windsor and Detroit, the redevelopment of Ricoh Coliseum at Exhibition Place, and most recently the construction of the national soccer stadium at Exhibition Place.

Steven received a B.A. (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1995 and an LL.B. from the University of Western Ontario in 1999 (Gold Medallist). He joined the firm as a summer student in 1998, returned as an articling student in 1999 and joined the firm as an associate following his call to the Ontario Bar in 2001.  He became a partner in 2003.
