Guy Du Pont is a litigation partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP. He was awarded the honour of “Avocat Émérite” by the Barreau du Québec at its Annual Meeting in May 2008. He has been a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 2001. He was elected to the American Law Institute in June 2005, one of fourteen Canadians to earn this honour since the Institute was founded in 1923 and currently contributes to three consultative groups, namely on sentencing, intellectual property and aggregate litigation. He is a Governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation and has been appointed to the Tax Court Bench and Bar Committee of the Canadian Bar Association where he acts as Chair since September 2007.
Guy specializes in complex and "high stakes" litigation in the fields of taxation (including federal and provincial income tax, customs, excise and consumer taxes), constitutional and administrative law, commercial disputes, criminal investigations, compliance matters, environmental and competition law and class actions. He has appeared as lead counsel in a number of groundbreaking cases, including cases decided by provincial Courts of all levels, by the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal and by the Supreme Court of Canada in
Concordia University v. Bisaillon, Binet v. Pharmascience Inc. and
Dunne v. Revenue Québec.

He has also taught in the Department of Chartered Accountancy of McGill University.
Guy obtained an LL.B. degree from the University of Ottawa in 1975.
