Jim has been involved in a number of important cases. He successfully represented Pacifica Papers in one of the leading contested plan of arrangement and oppression remedy cases, and acted for the Ontario Securities Commission in the Ainsley Financial case, a leading administrative law decision, which considered the Commission's jurisdiction to issue policy statements. More recently, he acted for Canada Pipe Company in an abuse of dominance proceeding before the Competition Tribunal. He has acted in a number of actions commenced against directors and officers of leading Canadian companies, including acting for the former directors of Royal Trustco Limited in a class action commenced by shareholders. He also acted in a number of large insolvency and restructuring matters, including Olympia & York, Cadillac Fairview, Confederation Treasury Services Limited, White Rose Crafts and Nursery Sales Limited and Phillip Services Limited.
Jim teaches civil litigation at the Law Society of Upper Canada and is an instructor at the Osgoode Hall Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop.
He received his B.A. (Honours) from the University of Toronto in 1986 and LL.B. and B.C.L. from McGill University in 1990 where he was recognized as a University Scholar. He became a partner of the firm in 1994.
