Laurence Detière
 
 
Laurence Detière is a partner specializing in corporate and commercial law. She focuses her practice in mergers and acquisitions and secured financing (acting both as borrower's and lender's counsel), including transactions and financings involving distressed or insolvent companies. Her practice is transactional in nature and includes counseling Canadian and foreign companies in the purchase and sale of businesses, their financing and reorganizations. She also advises clients on environmental matters and considerations relating to commercial transactions.

In recent years, Laurence has participated in major acquisitions and financings involving both private and public companies, domestic and foreign. By way of example, she played a principal role in Shermag Inc.'s acquisition of Jaymar Furniture Company and led the major secured financing provided by the Royal Bank of Canada in connection with Chicago-based Lake Pacific Partner's investment in Maxi Poultry Co Ltd.

Laurence has spoken on mergers and acquisitions and financing at several seminars and conferences. She chairs Concordia University Tribunal Hearings and is also very active in the student and stagiaire recruitment committee, as well as in the development and implementation of the student summer programme.

After earning her B.Comm., Laurence completed her combined LL.B./B.C.L. at McGill University in 1997. She has also studied at the National University of Singapore. She became a partner in 2002.
