Patrick Barry is a partner with a broad corporate and securities practice.  He has a particular focus on private equity fund formation and investment transactions, public and private mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity corporate finance.  Patrick also has significant experience in corporate and commercial joint ventures and structured finance transactions and is the principal contact at the firm for a number of U.S. and Canadian public and private companies.

Patrick has played a principal role in a number of significant merger and acquisition transactions, including, most recently, several Canadian business acquisitions by subsidiaries of Hanson plc and Birch Hill Equity Partner's acquisition of Bio Agri Mix LP.  He also continues to act as counsel to Iogen Corporation in connection with its strategic alliance with Royal Dutch Shell plc, as well as its corporate finance activities and various special projects.

In the private equity area, Patrick regularly acts as counsel to a number of Canadian private equity firms in connection with transactions involving their portfolio companies, including Birch Hill Equity Partners, Mosaic Venture Partners and others.  Patrick is also active in the fund formation area, having advised, among others, Birch Hill Equity Partners, Ironbridge Equity Partners and West Face Capital in connection with their most recent fundraising activities.  Patrick has also worked with a number of other Canadian financial institutions in connection with their private equity investment activities.

Patrick is listed as one of Canada's leading private equity counsel in the Guide to the World's Leading Private Equity Lawyers.  He is also listed as recommended counsel in PLC's Crossborder Private Equity Handbook and PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook.

Patrick obtained a B.A. (magna cum laude) in 1988 from Harvard University and an LL.B. in 1991 from the University of Toronto Law School.
