Laurent Debrun
 
 
Laurent Debrun is a partner in the litigation group. He specializes in civil and commercial litigation, domestic and international arbitration and intellectual property. He is also active in e-commerce related matters.

During his career, Laurent has been in charge of important files related to domestic and international commercial conflicts, insurance claims, manufacturer's liability concerning industrial and consumer products, class actions,  investors' rights and cross-border patents litigation.

In addition, Laurent was involved in several international arbitrations concerning joint ventures, termination of distribution agreements and construction agreements. He has acted on behalf of Canadian as well as American clients. He has also supervised multi-jurisdictional litigation for Canadian clients, notably in France and in the United States.

Laurent is a member of the Defense Institute of America, the International Institute of Arbitration (Paris) and the International Association of Jurists, among other professional organizations. He has also given a series of lectures on various topics such as manufacturer liability for medical equipment or the valuation of shares in various litigious contexts. In November 2004, Laurent was part of an international advocacy group in connection with the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Tanzania. Laurent also teaches International commercial arbitration at the faculty of law of the University of Ottawa and he has written several articles on intellectual property, patents and competition law in addition to giving lectures on business valuation in a litigation context, liability of professionals in the pharmaceutical industry and related topics.

Laurent received a degree in Economics in 1979 (France), a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from McGill University in 1983, an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1989 and a B.C.L. from the University of Montréal in 1990. He was called to the Québec Bar in 1991 and is currently preparing for admission to the New York and Paris Bars.
