Jeffrey Lem
 
 
Jeffrey Lem is a partner in the real estate group.  He has had experience in a broad range of sophisticated commercial real estate matters, and has participated in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, development and financing of numerous major real estate projects and portfolios.  Jeffrey also acted for and was a trustee of a number of public mortgage investment trusts, and has experience in all aspects of real estate based lending, restructuring and remedies.

In the last three years, Jeffrey's involvement in a number of major transactions included the recent sale by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation of certain surplus vacant lands at the Toronto Broadcast Centre to Ontrea Inc. and The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited; the restructuring of Cineplex Odeon Corporation; a secured financing for Agricore United; commercial leasing work for many major corporations, including Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. and H&M Hennes & Mauritz Inc.

Jeffrey is the co-editor-in-chief of the Real Property Reports (and before that an associate editor of the Digest of Real Property Law) and is the legal editor of Building Magazine. Jeffrey is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Real Property Section of the Ontario Bar Association, and has written widely for various journals and magazines, including the Real Property Reports, Municipal World, Building Magazine, Toronto Real Estate News, Digest of Real Property Law and Digest of Municipal and Planning Law.  Jeffrey was an instructor in the real property section of the Bar Admission Course and speaks regularly on various topics of interest for a number of different continuing legal education organizations, including The Law Society of Upper Canada, Osgoode Hall Law School, and the Ontario Bar Association.  He is a member of the American Bar Association; the American Land Titles Association; the International Council of Shopping Centers; and is the Regent for Canada of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

Jeffrey has been recognized as a Certified Specialist in Real Estate Law by The Law Society of Upper Canada and has also been recognized by LEXPERT as a repeatedly recommended property development practitioner and by The Best Lawyers in Canada in the real estate category.  He received his B.Comm. from the University of Toronto in 1984, an LL.B. from the Osgoode Hall Law School in 1987, and an LL.M. from the Osgoode Hall Law School in 2002.  He became a partner in 2001.
