Alexandre Genest is an associate in the taxation law practice area who works in our Montréal office.
Alexandre co-authored, with Stéphane Eljarrat, partner of our firm, an article discussing the audit process conducted by the Canada Revenue Agency and the implications of certain information requests it can issue to taxpayers. The article is entitled, “Les demandes péremptoires : pièges et privilège pour l’avocat”. While at university, Alexandre published an article in the
Revue juridique Thémis on section 8 of the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the reasonable expectation of privacy entitled “Privacy as Construed During the Tessling Era: Revisiting the Totality of Circumstances Test, Standing and Third Party Rights”, 2007 (41) R.J.T. 337.
Alexandre also spent a semester as an exchange student at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain, where he took law courses in Spanish. In addition, Alexandre was Vice-President, External Affairs of the Law Student Association (LSA) for the academic year 2003-2004.
Alexandre has received the following awards for excellence: the Frank. R. Scott Award for overall excellence in constitutional law, and the Goldenberg and Harry-Batshaw prizes for outstanding performance in the public freedoms course taught by Professor François Chevrette.
Alexandre is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF), the Canadian Bar Association and the Young Bar Association of Montréal. Alexandre is also involved in an informal study group of young tax professionals from various law and accounting firms.
Alexandre graduated from the Université de Montréal in 2005 with a law degree (LL.B.) (named on the Dean’s Excellence List). He joined the firm as a student in 2004 and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2007.
Alexandre speaks fluent English and French and has a working knowledge of Spanish.
