Anthony Arquin
 
 
Anthony Arquin is an associate practising in the field of corporate and commercial law. He is particularly interested in public-private partnerships, commercial real estate law and mergers and acquisitions.

Anthony currently acts as adviser to various consortiums bidding on the project to build a new concert hall for the Montréal Symphony Orchestra and the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal project, both of which are in the form of public-private partnerships (PPP).

Anthony was part of the team representing RES Canada in the award by Hydro-Québec Distribution of five windfarm energy projects representing in total a capacity of 954 megawatts in the St-Laurent Énergies consortium, formed by EDF Énergies Nouvelles, HYDROMÉGA Services Inc. and RES Canada. In all, the expected investment for the five projects will be over Cdn$2 billion.

Anthony has also handled several major mergers and acquisitions and commercial real estate transactions. He acted for the Australian corporation Amcor Limited in connection with its sale of Amcor White Cap to Silgan Holdings Inc, for a total sale price in excess of 185 million euros, a transaction that involved many jurisdictions in South America. He also acted for Amcor when it sold Amcor PET Packaging operations in several European and North African countries to La Seda de Barcelona, S.A, a sale that involved approximately 430 million euros. Anthony worked for Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. on its definitive agreement with Bowater Inc. to combine in an all-stock merger of equals. Anthony also represented Symmetry Holdings Inc. in its acquisition of steel products manufacturer Novamerican Steel Inc. for a purchase price of US$585 million. He was also involved in the US$150 million sale by Hydro-Québec International Inc. and the Fonds de solidarité des travailleurs du Québec of their interest in the Panamanian hydroelectric company Empresea de Generacion Eléctrica Fortuna, S.A. to a subsidiary of Enel Latin America LLC.

Anthony plays an active role on behalf of First Capital Realty Inc. and Home Depot of Canada in connection with their acquisition and development of sites in the Province of Quebec.

Anthony has published an article discussing the implementation of a no-fault system in medical cases entitled “L’instauration du ‘no-fault’ en matière médicale, Eden ou futures désillusions?”, (2003-2004) 17 R.J.E.E.U.L. 3-73. In 2004, he also drafted a report for the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec examining the deterrent effect of civil liability in connection with automobile accidents.

Anthony earned a D.E.U.G. in law from the Université d’Aix-Marseille III and then obtained his Bachelor of Law from Université Laval (with Honours). He was hired as a lawyer immediately upon his admission to the Quebec Bar in January 2006 and is a member of the firm’s recruiting committee. Anthony works in both English and French and has a working knowledge of Spanish.
