We know that students are often nervous about salary, benefits and the other tangible aspects of a summer or articling position at a law firm. Accordingly, we have anticipated some of these questions and have set out below the basic “terms” of a student position at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP.
Summer and Articling

- Salary of $1,600 per week (i.e. $83,200 if annualized)
Articling Benefits
- Full health (medical/dental) benefits and life insurance coverage
- Signing bonus of $5,000 (less statutory deductions) paid to incoming students who accept our offer to article in August
- Payment of fees for Skills and Professional Responsibility Program and each of the Barrister and Solicitor Licensing Examinations
- Payment of Salary during Skills and Professional Responsibility Program plus 20 paid days to study for and write the Solicitor's and Barrister's Examination
- 10 paid vacation days during the 10 month articling term
Start Dates
- Articling students join the firm at the beginning of August following completion of the Skills and Professional Responsibility Program and writing of the Solicitor's and Barrister's Examinations
- The summer employment term is typically mid-May to mid-August
