Guy Du Pont honoured by the Québec Bar

April 10, 2008

Guy Du Pont,  partner of the Montréal litigation group of Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg, has been chosen by the Québec Bar's General Council to receive the honorary title of Advocatus Emeritus. Mr. Du Pont becomes the third member of the firm, after Maryse Bertrand and Lucien Bouchard, to receive this prestigious designation. The awards ceremony will be held on May 29 in Québec City during the Québec Bar’s annual meeting.

Created last year by the Bar, the designation Advocatus Emeritus recognizes the careers of members who are renowned for their professional excellence as well as their continued and outstanding contribution to the profession. This honorary title also aims to promote the image of the legal profession by celebrating its most deserving members.

Over the last thirty years, Guy Du Pont has built a leading litigation practice covering a wide range of areas including tax, civil and criminal law as well as constitutional and administrative matters.

This is one of many prestigious distinctions that Mr. Du Pont has received over the years. In 2001, Mr. Du Pont was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and in 2005 he was elected to the American Law Institute, one of only 14 Canadians to earn this honour at that time, since the Institute was founded in 1923.

Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, with over 235 lawyers, practises nationally and internationally from offices in Toronto, Montréal, New York and an affiliate in Paris and is consistently at the heart of the largest and most complex commercial and financial matters on behalf of its North American and overseas clients.
