Guy Du Pont was elected to the American Law Institute, one of a handful members from Canada, a select group that includes Justice Farley from Toronto and Justice Claire L'Heureux Dubé from Québec.

The American Law Institute was established in 1923 "to promote the clarification and simplification of the laws and its better adaptation to social needs, to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific work".
