Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP Launches Unique Webcast Series

April 20, 2004

Toronto and Montréal - April 20, 2004 - Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP has announced law@work/droit@vous, Canada's first regular webcast series on topical legal issues. This follows Davies' highly successful webcast test in January 2004, "The New Governance Rules and Guidelines - And How to Deal with Them".

Each webcast will feature lawyers from Davies, a leading business law firm with offices in Toronto, Montréal, New York (practising U.S. law) and an affiliate in Paris. The webcasts will provide expert and insightful comment on issues of importance to business decision-makers, corporate legal departments, financial intermediaries, regulators, law school faculty and students and other lawyers in Canada, the U.S. and internationally. Occasionally the webcasts will include invited guests, and some will take place in front of a live audience.

Webcasts will be scheduled on a regular basis or as breaking issues occur. The series will cover topics drawn from the firm's areas of practice such as taxation, real estate, mergers and acquisitions, competition and international trade, capital markets, life sciences, private equity, corporate governance, commercial litigation, structured finance and the environment.

Launching April 27, 2004, law@work/droit@vous will kick off with "U.S. and Canada Cross Border Businesses - Managing Antitrust Risk". Given the size, scope and importance of U.S./Canadian trade, and the severe consequences of violating antitrust/competition laws in the U.S. or Canada, this webcast should be of interest to a wide audience.

The firm's Life Sciences Group will host the next webcast in late-May/early-June; we will break for July and August and will come back in September with a webcast covering cross-border taxation issues.  As well, in the fall, special programs providing law students with information and discussions relevant to their career choices will be scheduled.

"These webcasts will provide our clients and friends with information highly useful to their businesses in a convenient, no-cost way," said Paul Carder, Director of Marketing & Business Development.  "Feedback from the first webcast was very positive and demonstrated the appeal and value of this vehicle."

Law@work/droit@vous will be distributed by Canada News Wire at www.newswire.ca, or can be accessed through links at the Davies website, www.dwpv.com. Each program will be archived for six months.

Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, with over 235 lawyers, practises nationally and internationally from offices in Toronto, Montréal, New York and Paris, and is consistently at the heart of the largest and most complex commercial and financial matters on behalf of its North American and overseas clients.
