Deal-making in the energy sector continues to be driven by ongoing consolidation, a need to replace aging infrastructure and a growing focus on the development of renewable energy projects.

Davies consistently delivers on our clients' business objectives in the energy sector. Our multi-disciplinary team approach draws on lawyers from our corporate M&A, environmental, tax and infrastructure/public-private partnership groups, known for their ability to negotiate and structure complex transactions and navigate the regulatory environment both in Canada and abroad.

The firm has extensive experience in advising on the development and permitting of power generation projects (hydroelectric, nuclear, gas). Members of Davies' Energy group have been involved in the development, financing and acquisition of renewable energy projects (wind, biofuel, biomass, solar and run-of-river) and have advised clients on property acquisitions, power purchase agreements, project structuring and tax planning, and environmental issues.
  • Nuclear – we advise clients regarding regulatory and civil liabilities in the operation, refurbishing and financing of nuclear facilities and have acted for a prospective purchaser of a major nuclear power generation facility in Canada;
  • Hydroelectric – our lawyers counsel clients on hydroelectric project development and financing, including P3s and run-of-river and all aspects associated with the related environmental assessment and licensing;
  • Renewable Energy – our lawyers advise on the purchase, sale and financing of renewable energy projects such as wind, biofuel, biomass, solar and run-of-river;
  • Oil & Gas – our oil and gas experience represents a range of clients - from independent producers to multi-nationals, natural gas aggregators, energy income trusts, private investors and petrochemical owners and operators. We have advised on oil sands extraction and pipeline distribution and acted as counsel on numerous financing, purchase of sale and corporate reorganizations in the oil and gas industry.
