Our licence and collaboration practice group is a multidisciplinary group of talented lawyers that has the experience to assist our clients with their strategies and agreements ranging from outsourcing agreements, licensing transactions, collaboration and research agreements, joint venture, services agreement and other similar agreements.

Members of our group have advised national and multinational information technology and telecommunications corporations, life science corporations and also non-technology based companies on their dealings with technology and technology based companies.

The extent of our licence and collaboration group practice is best illustrated with a sampling of our recent public engagement:

  • CGI Group Inc. in the creation of a new jointly-owned information technology services by CGI Group Inc. and Canada Post Corporation with expected revenues of approximately $3.5 billion dollars over ten years;
  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, TELUS Corporation and Soltrus Inc. in the creation of national e-commerce joint venture with CIBC and VeriSign, Inc.;
  • Procuron Inc. in the business-to-business (B2B) exchange formed by Bell Canada, CIBC, Scotiabank, Mouvement des caisses Desjardins and BCE Emergis to provide Canadian business with Internet access to products and services at competitive prices;
  • Research agreements and licence agreements with public institutions such as Bar Iland (Israel), Brigham and Women Hospital, Curie Institute, Massachussetts General Hospital, McGill University, Montpellier I, Queen's University, Ste-Justine Hospital, Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg), University of British Columbia, University of Toronto;
  • Collaboration, licence and research agreements with companies such as Aragenis, British Biotech Pharmaceuticals Inc., Merk Frost Canada Co., MGI Pharma and Taiho Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.
